Over the past few years mobile phones have become a massive part of everyday life. It went from mobiles being only really used in business to everyone having one and texting and calling on the move being a completely normal thing. People wonder now how they lived without their mobiles which is crazy considering it is only a few short years since there were none.
When they started becoming more common, the early phones only really did the basics – texting and calling, with very simple calendars and games. But in only a short few years they have gone from this to the more recent “smartphones”, which are basically like portable computers that you carry around that happen to make phone calls! They have even gone from buttons to touchscreen, which would have been hard to imagine just a couple of years ago really!
There is a lot of choice when it comes to smartphones, with lots of competing companies offering different phones to sign customers up to their contracts. Apple released the iPhone, there is also the Blackberry, Window Phone from Microsoft and the Android, all with similar features but done in a much different way. There are now “tribes” of people defending their chosen phones!
It is no longer the case that your mobile phone can only do the basics like text and call. Smartphones let you do so much more- you can go onto the Internet if you have a good phone signal or access to Wi-Fi network so you have access to any information you want. You can go onto your email account or check your social networking accounts such as Facebook or Twitter. Then there is the music element, meaning you don’t need to have a separate MP3 player anymore!
You don’t do all of this through an Internet browser that you have to resize to see properly, but you use Apps that actually put websites into phone format. There are apps for almost everything, with Twitter and Facebook being very popular, with the app simplifying them for a phone. There are apps for shopping, games, music etc. There are more and more people developing apps as this industry is very much a growing one.
